We are the principal sponsor for the Human Welfare Society Orphanage in Kathmandu Valley. Our mission is to assist in providing a safe environment for children less fortunate so that they may live with love, respect and integrity.
Human Welfare Society (HWS)
The Human Welfare Society Nepal facilitates an orphanage in Banepa, Kathmandu by providing essential services such as food, shelter, and education to orphaned and abandoned children. Their efforts aim to create a nurturing environment that promotes the well-being of and future opportunities for these children, helping them grow into self-sufficient and empowered individuals.
HWS and Active Hearts Foundation (AHF) Background
Since 2019, the AHF has been providing crucial financial assistance to support the operational costs of running the HWS orphanage, covering essential expenses such as rent, utilities, medical care, and educational fees. In 2024, with the establishment of a new HWS orphanage building, the AHF has expanded its support by helping to create effective management systems and completing the outfitting of the facility to ensure it is safe, warm, hygienic, and sustainable. These efforts are aimed at providing a nurturing and secure environment for the children of the HWS, ensuring they have the resources and care they need to thrive.
Help Us Make the Banepa Orphanage a Safe and Comfortable Home for Children
We are overjoyed to have secured a beautiful new building for the children of our Banepa Orphanage, but we need your help to turn this space into the safe, warm, and functional home they deserve. While the building itself offers great potential, it requires significant upgrades to meet the basic needs of the children living there.
Current Challenges:
• The building is cold and unheated, making it uncomfortable and unhealthy for the children, especially in the colder months.
• The plumbing is inadequate and incomplete, with no proper system in place for clean drinking water.
• The solar hot water system is not functioning, leaving the children without a reliable source of hot water.
• Essential items, such as extra blankets and cooking equipment, are still needed to ensure the children’s comfort and well-being.
Our Objectives for Improvement:
We have a clear plan in place to address these challenges and transform the orphanage into a safe, warm, and healthy environment for the children. The upgrades include:
1. Installation of 7 Air Conditioning Units to heat and dry the building, ensuring it remains comfortable year-round. We also need to rewire the electrical system to support these units.
2. Restoration of the Solar Hot Water System to provide hot showers and warm water for the children.
3. Upgrades to the Plumbing and Water System, including a complete overhaul of the drinking water system, with the installation of a high-quality water filtration system to ensure the children have access to safe and hygienic drinking water.
4. Additional Supplies such as extra blankets, cooking equipment, and other basic necessities to ensure the children’s daily needs are met.
Cost Estimate:
The total cost for these essential upgrades is estimated at 20,000 NZD. This includes the purchase of supplies, materials, and the labor required to complete the necessary improvements.
