GANESH HIMAL TREK 2019
In November 2019 a team of 12 foreigners and 46 Nepali staff returned to the amazing Nuwakot district beneath majestic Ganesh Himal once again to visit our completed projects and open our latest library project located in Salme school, Salme village, Kispang, Nuwakot.
This beautiful school and village was host to our 2018 Charity Trek group as we hiked through the region. This area was hit by the 2015 Earthquakes very heavily and after discussion with the school officials in 2018 Dan and Arjun decided to help rebuild a brand new library/classroom facility for Salme school. The project was opened November 15th 2019 with an awesome celebration by the local school children and community. The 10 wonderful guests from New Zealand and America on the 2019 Charity Trek had helped fund the new library. They were guests of honor at the opening celebrations beneath majestic Ganesh Himal it was a very special day.
GANESH HIMAL TREK 2018
During the month of November 2018 an international team of Active Hearts volunteers from New Zealand, the United States, Australia and Nepal trekked beneath the majestic Ganesh Himal range. Hiking far from the tourist trails deep into these remote communities, led by the wonderful people that call them home, an adventure unlike no other was had.
We then completed eight-days trekking self-contained camping out beneath the Himalaya with our team of 40 local support staff. The views were incredible, the organic feasts they prepared were amazing but the local communities we spent time with was the highlight.
SOLU KHUMBU TREK 2015
Late Oct 2015 a team of intrepid trekkers hiked deep into the foothills beneath Mt. Everest to spread hope after the 2015 earthquakes.
During the weeks following the 25th April 2015 earthquakes the Active Hearts team sent eighty 12 x 18m heavy duty tarpaulins to the Lower Solu Khumbu region, beneath Mt Everest. These emergency tarps were sent to Gudel, Cheskim and surrounds. They were taken directly to families of guides and porters of ‘Active Adventures’ and their fellow villagers.
“Our boys and a team of donkeys carried the heavy loads for 4 days to these remote areas which had been hit hard by the earthquake.”
Dan and Arjun could not make the trip themselves at that time as they were fully occupied with emergency relief in central Nepal, but the seed of an idea was sown to visit the area and see how the people were coping at a later date.
