The Hearts Orphanages

The 90 orphans at our two facilities have had heartbreaking experiences and traumas in their short lives.

Many are mentally and physically disabled, and some are paralyzed. Each has a different story and each is a beautiful unique individual that we care about very much. The youngest is just 2 months and the oldest is 14 years.

We first met Mr Bijaya Pokhrel at the Kathmandu National Library when he became the facilitator and instructor for the Active Hearts Foundation Librarian 3 day training course. (Once our libraries are completed we train a librarian to manage the facility) Mr Pokhrel shared his story in creating the Human Welfare Society orphanage in 2015 post earthquake after seeing a desperate need to support the many helpless and homeless in Kathmandu city. His amazing efforts to provide these children a place to call home were very inspiring to us and we knew we had to help with his cause. The five Human Welfare Society homeless shelters and orphanages are run 100% by donations without governmental assistance.

We are the only international organisation providing assistance.

We are committed to our mission to provide food, medical assistance, safe accommodation, school supplies and uniforms, purpose and love.

The facilities provide motivational programs and creative skills programs to help empower the occupants and give them a meaningful role in the community. We endeavor to reunite the children or individuals with their villages and families if possible.

We are pursuing the possibility of opening a school specifically for orphaned children with mental and physical disabilities.
